Empowered: The Amazing Church of Jesus Christ

This 12-week study through the book of Acts takes an intimate look into the new but familiar work of the Holy Spirit as He initiates and directs the growth of the Church and the spread of the Gospel through the triumphs and sufferings of Christ’s faithful witnesses. The Holy Spirit is the hope of “something greater” that Jesus repeatedly promised, and His arrival in the book of Acts makes clear that there is a purpose beyond the here and now that they – and we – have been called and prepared to fulfill.

The book of Acts is the extraordinary story of the Church—its birth, struggles, and growth. This twelve-week study takes an intimate look into the new but familiar work of the Holy Spirit as He initiates and directs the growth of the Church and the spread of the Gospel through the triumphs and sufferings of Christ’s faithful witnesses. The Holy Spirit is the hope of “something greater” that Jesus repeatedly promised, and His arrival in the book of Acts makes clear that there is a purpose beyond the here and now that they — and we — have been called and prepared to fulfill. The flaming arrival of the Holy Spirit set the hearts of God’s people on fire to spread Jesus’ message across continents and cultures, bringing a new and unexpected unity to the body of Christ. Jesus prepared His disciples for three years during His earthly ministry. His final command was to go into Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the world to preach the gospel. The Gospel—the good news that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for those who would believe. People were coming to saving faith by the thousands. One Jewish man, Saul of Tarsus, burned with passion against the new Christians and persecuted them fully. That is until Jesus appeared before him. Now, the greatest persecutor of Christians became the greatest evangelist of all time—spreading the good news of Christ around the known world. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, lives were changed, and the body of Christ grew—as The Amazing Church. Until Christ returns again, we are to continue to build His bride—the Church.
